My portraits are oil on canvas. They depict the subject life size, and the view is generally three-quarter figure, or perhaps full figure in the case of a child. My goal is to paint a powerful portrait, and also to make a good painting.

I prefer little distracting background, but do like the subject to be portrayed in his/her own setting. During the first session, preferably in your home or at a location of your choice, various poses will be tried. I will take many photographs and perhaps do some quick thumbnail sketches. I will use the photographs to begin the painting, and after a good start may ask the subject, when possible, to sit for me, preferably in my studio.

My goal is to complete the painting in two months. It may take longer.
